Explosive Device Found at Londonderry Hotel

A suspicious package delivered to a hotel in Londonderry was found to contain a viable explosive device, police stated Tuesday. Army bomb experts responded to the hotel in Ebrington Square after the package was discovered around 3:20 p.m. GMT. The device was subjected to a controlled explosion and subsequently taken for forensic examination.

Detective Superintendent Kearney of the Police Service of Northern Ireland condemned the incident as a "reckless and targeted attack." A Halloween funfair was being held a short distance from the hotel, but it remained open throughout the security alert.
