Exes of Former ABC Anchors Robach and Holmes Announce Engagement
Three years after the cheating scandal that ended their marriages and careers, Andrew Shue and Marilee Fiebig are set to wed.
The former spouses of disgraced ABC News anchors Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes have announced their engagement, three years after the extramarital affair between Robach and Holmes became public.
Andrew Shue, Robach's ex-husband, and Marilee Fiebig, Holmes' ex-wife, reportedly grew close as the scandal unfolded. They confirmed their engagement this week.
"I don’t know how it happened, but there’s a happy ending," Shue told People magazine. "I had to grow through a lot of pain and a lot of struggle and a lot of humility. I’m grateful."
The affair between Robach and Holmes, who co-hosted "GMA3: What You Need to Know," led to their high-profile exits from ABC News in 2023. They have maintained that they were separated and divorcing when intimate photos of them were published in 2022, stating they were "outed, not caught."
Relationship expert Dr. Tammy Nelson suggested that shared life transitions can forge strong bonds. "When two people go through a similar life transition, it can create a bond in ways other experiences can't," Nelson told Fox News Digital. "It can create emotional connection, but a lasting relationship will mean they both have to work together to create something new."
Nelson also emphasized the importance of privacy for couples navigating public scrutiny. "Sometimes, couples need the space to discover what's real between them before inviting outside opinions and scrutiny into their relationship," she said.
Robach and Holmes themselves have since married. A private ceremony was reportedly held in September.
Shue reflected on his personal journey, telling People, "I had to accept my own part in marriage not working out for me and in not understanding myself well enough and not understanding what matters in a relationship well enough to find the right person for me, and that has been an extraordinary gift."
He added, "I don’t think there was anything other than this just happened to be our way of getting to know each other and being able to share ourselves with each other in a time where we both needed a friend."
