Ty Cobb, a former attorney for Donald Trump, has theorized that the former president may be deliberately withholding significant campaign funds not for personal interests, but to interfere with and potentially "steal" upcoming elections. Cobb, who served in the White House during Trump's first term but has since become a critic, stated that Trump is "sitting on $400 million in campaign money that he could donate to some of these elections and he’s not."

Cobb suggested on MS NOW that Trump might believe he does not need to spend this money because his intention is to manipulate election outcomes. "I think Trump doesn’t feel he needs to spend this money because it is his intention to interfere with the elections and to steal these elections where possible," Cobb told host Ari Melber.

Should the midterm elections prove unfavorable to Trump, Cobb posited that the former president might encourage House Speaker Mike Johnson to refuse seating democratically elected representatives. Cobb drew a parallel to Trump's past pressure on then-Vice President Mike Pence to overturn the results of the 2020 election. Melber characterized such a scenario as a potential "constitutional crisis."
