Former Conservative Member of Parliament David Warburton, who resigned his seat over allegations of sexual harassment and cocaine use, left an estate valued at £97,000 after his death at age 59. Warburton died in August, and a coroner later ruled his death was of natural causes. He was found at his home in Chelsea Harbour.

Warburton served as the MP for Somerton and Frome from 2015 until his resignation in June 2023. He was suspended from the Conservative Party in April 2022 following accusations of sexual harassment and class A drug use. He admitted to taking cocaine, stating he had consumed a large amount of potent Japanese whisky at the time, but he denied the harassment claims.

An investigation into the allegations by Parliament's Independent Complaints and Grievance Scheme (ICGS) was deemed materially flawed on appeal. The matter remained unresolved after the complainant withdrew from a subsequent inquiry. Warburton's will, signed five months before his death, left his estate to his daughter Cecily, son James, and brother Richard. The total value of his estate was £138,867, reduced to £97,639 after deductions. The will establishes a trust with a 125-year duration, granting trustees discretion over asset distribution.

Warburton's death was treated as unexpected but not suspicious by police at the time. His political career faced significant challenges following the surfacing of the allegations. In April 2022, he was admitted to a psychiatric hospital for stress, reporting suicidal thoughts. Upon his resignation from Parliament in June 2023, Warburton criticized the investigation process, claiming he was denied a fair hearing and that the oversight system was not fit for purpose.

He had previously founded a music company that created mobile phone ringtones, which was recognized as a fast-growing technology firm before he sold it in 2008. At the time of his death, he was listed as the chief executive of Capenex Energy group, a role he assumed in February 2024.

In July 2023, following Warburton's departure, the Somerton and Frome seat was won by Liberal Democrat candidate Sarah Dyke in a by-election.
