A former chemistry teacher, Sally-Anne Bowen, 65, has been convicted of having sexual contact with one pupil and kissing another while teaching in north London in the late 1980s. Bowen was found guilty at Harrow Crown Court of having sex with a 14-year-old pupil up to 30 times and of kissing another teenage boy, then allowing him to fondle her. The court heard that Bowen, who taught at Christ's College in Finchley, engaged in conversations about sex with students and dressed provocatively. She denied the charges, claiming she had a low libido and a medical condition that made sex painful.

In a separate development related to the case, Bowen's partner of nearly 40 years, Darren Scotchbrook, is accused of sending threatening and racially abusive emails to Detective Sergeant Terry Mulcahy, the lead investigator. According to reports from St Albans Magistrates' Court in July, Scotchbrook allegedly sent numerous threatening emails to Detective Sergeant Mulcahy, with accusations of showing hostility towards Pakistani people. These alleged incidents occurred weeks before Scotchbrook testified in support of Bowen during her trial. Scotchbrook is facing a separate trial for harassment allegations involving four victims, which are also connected to Bowen's case. He is expected to appear in court next month, with a trial anticipated this year or in early 2027.

During Bowen's trial, Scotchbrook testified about their personal life, describing their sexual relationship as infrequent and him as a quick lover. He stated that Bowen was often reluctant for sex and that it was not enjoyable for her. Bowen, in her defense, told the court that she believed one of the complainants had a crush on her and that she did not recall the second complainant. She asserted that the allegations were a fabrication. She was banned from teaching by the Teaching Regulatory Agency in December 2023.
