Michael Davies, 58, has been convicted of murdering his wife, Tracey Davies, 48, after previously pleading guilty to manslaughter. The couple lived in Cefn Cribwr, Bridgend, South Wales.
Mrs. Davies was discovered deceased on April 18, 2025, by family members who entered the property due to a lack of contact. Newport Crown Court heard that her husband strangled her and subsequently stabbed himself, but recovered from his injuries. Davies has now been found guilty of murder.
Family members described Tracey Davies as "a truly extraordinary woman" whose life was "cruelly and brutally ended by the man she loved." According to court testimony, Davies, who had left the army in 2023 and was working in Abu Dhabi, was sent home due to poor mental health. He developed paranoid beliefs that his wife intended to leave him.
During the trial, evidence showed Davies had conducted online searches related to paranoia and jealousy, including queries such as 'how to stop being jealous in a relationship,' 'how to fight paranoia,' and 'how to stop paranoia thoughts in a relationship.'
Following the killing, Davies attempted suicide by stabbing himself and taking an overdose. He was hospitalized and survived. When questioned by police, Davies acknowledged killing his wife, attributing his actions to a loss of control, depression, and anxiety.
Following the jury's guilty verdict on the murder charge, Judge Daniel Williams informed Davies that the only sentence available is life imprisonment. The court will determine the minimum term he must serve before being eligible for parole.
In a statement, Mrs. Davies' family expressed that they will never come to terms with their loss, stating that the violent nature of her death has amplified their grief. They described hearing the graphic details of her killing as "complete torment."
Detective Chief Inspector Claire Lamerton of South Wales Police described the case as "awful" and noted its significant impact on the family and the wider community. She added that evidence presented during the trial highlighted Mrs. Davies as a devoted wife, mother, stepmother, and step-grandmother who was supportive and loving towards her husband. Police extended their condolences to the family and expressed hope that the verdict would allow them to grieve properly.
Davies is scheduled to be sentenced later this year.
