Ex-Press Secretary Praises Trump on Instagram After Brief Tenure

Former White House press secretary Katie Zacharia expressed strong support for President Trump on Instagram, hours after her departure from the post following a five-day tenure. Zacharia posted a photo of herself with Trump in the Oval Office, writing, “President Trump is a kind, wonderful, gracious, thoughtful, enthusiastic, and hardworking man. I wish more Americans appreciated him.”

She added, “No one will ever make America great the way he has and continues to. It was an honor to work for him.” The post, which included a blurred map on the president's desk, had garnered 7.2 million views by Saturday morning. Earlier on her account, a pinned post featured screenshots of Trump congratulating her on her appointment.

Zacharia's brief time as press secretary concluded Friday after two interviews on Fox News. During a Thursday appearance on Sean Hannity's program, Hannity characterized her initial White House press briefing as "widely panned" and questioned her self-identification as an "attorney" despite not passing the California bar exam after law school. On Friday morning, during an interview on "Fox & Friends," she appeared to struggle with talking points regarding the search of Rep. Ilhan Omar's home and was unable to confirm when her next press briefing would take place.

Later on Friday, Trump publicly addressed Zacharia's departure, suggesting she reconsider her role. "I've watched her for years on television, but I said, ‘Is this for you, Katie? Because honestly, you don’t need this,’” he told reporters before leaving the White House for a rally.

A source familiar with the situation indicated that Zacharia would be transitioning to a new role and was scheduled to have dinner with Vice President JD Vance on Friday evening. The Wall Street Journal reported that Zacharia learned of her assignment ending while sitting for an interview with the paper at the White House.

Among the individuals mentioned as potential successors is CNN commentator Scott Jennings, who is reportedly close to White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles. When asked about the possibility of taking the job during a broadcast on Friday, Jennings stated, “I haven’t spoken to anybody about it tonight or today.”
