Ex-NY Prosecutor Accuses AG Letitia James of Threats Over Anti-Trump Evidence

A former prosecutor within New York Attorney General Letitia James' office alleges that James is threatening him and has refused to delete evidence related to what he describes as anti-Trump political corruption. Daniel Wiesenfeld, who worked in the Investor Protection Bureau before his termination last month, stated in an email that he would not hand over “confidential and privileged” materials to his former employer.

According to an email obtained by the Times-Union, Wiesenfeld’s communication to James, dated Monday, indicated that he received a September 18th letter threatening him with “professional discipline, as well as civil and/or criminal action.” A subsequent September 30th letter, he wrote, gave him a deadline to confirm the destruction of “confidential and/or privileged information.”

Wiesenfeld also reported that James’ office had sent detectives from the Executive Protection Detail to his home, stating that they had repeatedly “hound[ed] me by banging on my front door” and that one detective left a business card jammed into his door.

He stated that James may be “fearful” of the materials he possesses ahead of the upcoming election, in which she is a candidate. However, Wiesenfeld asserted that he would not be intimidated and that the documents are “simply evidence.” He added that if James pursues legal action, it “will make this information public.”

This is not the first time Wiesenfeld has made such claims. Months prior, he reportedly sent an agency-wide email alleging that his supervisor had instructed him to find and prosecute crimes committed by individuals associated with former President Donald Trump. Wiesenfeld allegedly drew a parallel between Trump using the Department of Justice to prosecute enemies and James allegedly doing the same.

Following the internal email, Wiesenfeld was placed on administrative leave and subsequently fired on September 5th, according to the Times Union.

A representative for James' office described the situation as a "personnel matter" in August. The statement also said, “The office of the attorney general is committed to upholding New York’s laws and protecting the rights and freedoms of all New Yorkers, regardless of political beliefs. We strongly reject any assertion to the contrary.”
