Jennifer Lackard, a former deputy police commissioner in Mount Vernon, New York, has posted $75,000 bail and been released from jail. She is accused of driving the getaway car for her son during a June 29 drive-by shooting in the Bronx.
Prosecutors allege that Lackard, 49, and her husband, James Lackard, 49, drove their son, Chase Lackard, 20, to the vicinity of Yankee Stadium. Court documents state that Chase Lackard, identified as a member of the "Slutty Gang," then fired multiple shots from the minivan at a rival. No injuries were reported in the incident.
According to court documents, Jennifer Lackard had allegedly texted her son, "You can't just sit directly outside. It has to be timed right," in reference to the timing of the shooting. The incident occurred shortly after Chase Lackard had a court appearance.
Jennifer Lackard was terminated from her position as deputy police commissioner for the Mount Vernon Police Department after she and other family members were indicted this week. Her husband and son remain in custody.
