Ex-NFL Player Josh Mauro's Final Moments Revealed in 911 Call
A woman's frantic plea for help captures the discovery of the former player's death in an Arizona home.

Newly released 911 audio from April 23 captures the distressing moments a woman discovered former NFL player Josh Mauro deceased in his Phoenix home. The caller urgently requested an ambulance, stating, "I need an ambulance now," and expressing certainty that Mauro was dead.
The woman explained to the dispatcher that she and a friend had been partying with Mauro the previous night. She stated that Mauro was alive when she went to bed but awoke to find him unresponsive on the floor. "He's blue. He's blue," she reported, noting his lips had turned blue.
When questioned about drug use, the caller mentioned they had been drinking, but did not explicitly confirm drug involvement at that moment. She also indicated she was unaware of any pre-existing health conditions Mauro might have had, stating they had recently met him through work.
Upon arrival, first responders and Phoenix Police found Mauro deceased. According to a police report, investigators discovered a white powdery substance and a rolled-up dollar bill near his body, along with a bottle cap containing a white substance and a syringe in a nearby trash can. One woman present at the scene informed officers that Mauro had reportedly been "on a bender for four days."
The Maricopa County Medical Examiner later determined that Mauro had fentanyl, cocaine, ethanol, and their metabolites, as well as cannabinoids and caffeine in his system. His death was officially ruled an accidental overdose.
Mauro, 35, played in the NFL from 2014 to 2021, with stints for the Arizona Cardinals, New York Giants, and Oakland Raiders.
