Ex-Football Executive Admits Role in Husband's Drugging and Rape of Wife
Karl Lindsay pleaded guilty to charges involving sedatives and sexual offenses; his co-accused husband faces numerous counts.
A former chief executive of a non-league football club has pleaded guilty to involvement in sending sedatives to a husband who drugged and raped his wife. Karl Lindsay, 56, admitted to administering substances to stupefy the victim for sexual acts, along with two other serious sexual offenses, covering a period between January 2015 and October 2025.
The victim was present in Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court for the hearing. Lindsay, a father of five who had worked his way up from kit manager at Taunton Town Football Club, resigned from his executive role last November. He has been remanded into custody.
The husband in the case, from Stockport, Greater Manchester, has admitted to 62 offenses against his wife spanning over two decades, including multiple counts of rape. His identity is protected to preserve his wife's anonymity.
In total, three men have pleaded guilty to offenses against the woman. Graham Brougham, 74, pleaded guilty to raping the woman in September 2014. Keith Fotheringham, 59, of Dundee, and Sean Peers, 38, of Stockport, have also admitted to various sexual offenses against the victim.
Nine other men are scheduled to stand trial beginning Monday at the same court, having denied abusing the same woman between 2018 and 2025. The defendants include an ambulance paramedic, a former nightclub DJ, a children's football coach, and a taxi driver. The husband's offenses include rape, sexual assault, and administering a noxious substance between October 2004 and November 2025.
Among those facing trial is Jonathan Kirk, 43, an ambulance paramedic who denies charges of rape, conspiracy to rape, and conspiracy to commit assault by penetration. Former DJ Robert Stewart, 70, denies two counts of rape and one count of conspiracy to rape. Mohammed Sabir, 29, the youngest defendant, faces five charges including rape and conspiracy charges, all of which he denies.
Alan Keelan, 42, an accounts clerk and junior football coach, denies rape, two counts of attempted rape, and conspiracy to rape. Jordan Wallace, 31, a dog walker and delivery driver, denies rape, attempted rape, and conspiracy to rape. Taxi driver Philip Wild, 59, denies multiple charges including attempted rape and conspiracy to commit assault by penetration. Richard Townsend, 38, denies conspiracy to commit assault by penetration and assault by penetration. Daniel Rayner, 42, faces similar charges to Lindsay and has pleaded not guilty. David Graves, 60, denies charges of conspiracy to rape, conspiracy to commit assault by penetration, and conspiracy to commit sexual assault.
Defendants Brougham, Wallace, Kirk, Keelan, and Peers have been granted bail, while the remaining accused are in custody. The husband and those who have pleaded guilty, including Lindsay, Brougham, Fotheringham, and Peers, are set to be sentenced following the conclusion of the trial.
