Ex-FBI Officials Charged with Lying to Congress Over Hunter Biden Laptop Investigation

Two former FBI officials have been charged with making false statements to Congress regarding their involvement in the investigation into Hunter Biden's laptop. Nikki Cole Floris of Alexandria, Virginia, and Bradley Benavides of Aiken, South Carolina, surrendered on Friday and appeared in federal court in Washington, D.C. Authorities stated that both individuals are accused of lying to congressional investigators about their roles in the probe.

U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro, in a statement shared with the Daily Mail, emphasized the seriousness of the charges. "Lying to Congress by anyone strikes at the heart of our democratic system but when senior FBI agents lie to Congress believing they are above the law, it’s time to bring the hammer of justice down on them," Pirro said. She added, "When senior officials entrusted with safeguarding our nation’s security choose deception over duty, they undermine the very institutions they swore to uphold. Today’s action makes clear that no one is above the law, and we will hold accountable all who obstruct the truth."

The charges were filed approximately 11 days before the November 3 elections, a timing that is expected to draw additional attention to the politically charged case.
