Ex-FBI Director James Comey Faces Third Set of Charges
Prosecutors accuse Comey of leaking national defense information.

Former FBI Director James Comey is facing new criminal charges for allegedly leaking sensitive national defense information, marking the third time the Department of Justice has pursued charges against the former lawman. Prosecutors have accused Comey of "knowingly and wittingly" transmitting and conspiring to transmit national defense information in a filing made in the US District Court for the District of Columbia.
Comey addressed the charges in a video posted to his Substack, stating, "Well, they’re back, again." He characterized the action as "an appalling abuse of the Department of Justice." Comey reiterated his innocence and expressed confidence in the judiciary, adding, "I'm still innocent, and I’m still not afraid of these people and I still believe in the independent judiciary."
A spokesperson for the Justice Department confirmed the filing of a "waiverless criminal information to toll the statute of limitations as it relates to allegations concerning former FBI Director Comey." The spokesperson added that this practice is "widely recognized in federal court and has been approved by multiple Circuit Courts of Appeals" and that the department "will not comment further" as it is an ongoing investigation.
