A former member of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) has voiced concerns that communist ideologies have taken root within the organization, asserting that this shift is influencing the direction of the Democratic Party.
Jake Altman, who previously identified as a DSA member, stated in an interview that the group has been "captured" and that a significant portion of its members are "perfectly willing to cohabitate with Maoists, with Trotskyists, with Leninists." He expressed worry over the "resistance to anti-communism within the DSA, even from the moderate wing," which he described as "very, very dangerous."
Altman suggested that these factions are intent on dismantling American institutions and cited instances where individuals with a "thrill to violence" as being present within the organization. He noted that nearly a decade ago, when he participated in a debate on behalf of the DSA, he was reassured that the group's increasingly radical trajectory was driven by a small faction associated with "Jacobin" magazine.
"I was debating with Leninists who were saying Bernie Sanders isn't a socialist, and now we're hearing that from DSA, right? Bernie Sanders, AOC, they're not real socialists," Altman recalled. He pointed to the DSA's executive board, which he claims is comprised of "extremist caucuses."
Altman urged Democrats to oppose what he described as a "radicalized base," arguing that DSA members are not operating in good faith within the Democratic Party. He predicted that these members would target and attempt to undermine both moderate and progressive Democrats with the ultimate goal of gaining political power.
Fox News Digital reached out to the DSA for comment but did not immediately receive a response.
