Major donors are unlikely to support former Vice President Kamala Harris in a potential 2028 presidential run, according to a former fundraiser for the Democratic National Committee (DNC). Lindy Li stated on "My View with Lara Trump" that the Democratic Party faces significant fundraising challenges and internal divisions, making contributors hesitant to invest.
Li characterized political donors as viewing their contributions as a "business proposition," suggesting they will not continue to back candidates or organizations perceived to have mismanaged funds. She criticized the party's post-election accountability measures, calling the reported "autopsy" a "sham" that failed to address concerns about Harris's candidacy.
"Kamala Harris is living in fantasyland… [thinking] that big donors would bet on her again," Li said. "She should just go away because the American people do not want her agenda."
Federal filings indicate that approximately $2.5 billion was spent across Harris's campaign operation and the pro-Harris Future Forward super PAC. Harris's principal campaign committee alone reported about $1.18 billion in disbursements during the 2023-24 cycle.
According to Li, Democratic fundraising difficulties are linked to dissatisfaction with the party's ideological shift. She criticized Democrats for embracing what she described as socialist policies.
"This is why donors like me left the party in droves. And this is why they are so… broke," Li stated. "They literally had to put up their own headquarters… as collateral. They can't even get a text back from donors. So I don't want to hear anything about a big tent. You should not be normalizing socialism like this."
The former fundraiser also asserted that party leaders have succumbed to pressure from the progressive wing, suggesting that Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer's characterization of Democrats as a "big tent party" was an effort to preempt a primary challenge from Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
"He's trying to race her to the bottom. It's just ridiculous," Li commented. "And Americans already rejected it in 2024."
