Ex-Cowboys Star Dez Bryant Handcuffed at Gunpoint in Texas Dispute
Former NFL player Dez Bryant was detained by police and cited for assault following a confrontation over alleged reckless driving.
Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant was handcuffed and had a gun pointed at him by police during a dispute in Southlake, Texas, on Sunday. The incident occurred after Bryant engaged in a verbal altercation with two individuals he claimed were driving recklessly.
According to an interview with Outkick, Bryant stated that the dispute began when the two individuals cut him off in traffic. The situation escalated when they arrived at a restaurant parking lot and Bryant confronted one of the drivers.
"He get out of the car, he talking crazy," Bryant recounted. "I get out of the car, I’m talking my mess. And he go to threatening me."
Bryant alleged that the man threatened to shoot him. Bryant responded by warning the man that if he drew a weapon, he should be prepared to use it. The other individual then began recording Bryant on his phone, which prompted Bryant to knock the phone from his hand.
"I told him, I said, ‘Hey, man, you pull that gun, I’m telling you right now, you better use it because if you don’t, I’m going to do something to you,'" Bryant said.
Video footage obtained by Outkick shows multiple police officers arriving on the scene, drawing their weapons, and handcuffing Bryant, who was lying on his stomach. In the video, Bryant can be heard protesting, "He threatened me."
Bryant told Outkick that police investigated the incident and ultimately issued him a citation for assault. He stated that the officers asked him to "be the bigger person" despite the confrontation occurring in front of his children. He was given a future court date and released.
The Southlake Police Department had not immediately responded to a request for comment by the California Post on Monday.
