Brennan alleges these investigations were launched at the direction of President Donald Trump and constitute "phantom criminal conduct."
The lawsuit, reviewed by Fox News Digital, states that Brennan, who led the CIA from 2013 to 2017, is seeking preliminary injunctive relief to "protect his constitutional rights as the current target of two federal investigations that the U.S. Department of Justice."
Brennan asserts that the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) leadership have yielded to Trump's direction, using the department as "a tool of retribution against Director Brennan and the President’s other perceived adversaries."
