Rachel Frislid, a 62-year-old grandmother and business owner on Long Island, was found stabbed to death in her Sayville home on Friday, September 4, 2026. Authorities identified her ex-boyfriend, Brandon Hampson, as the suspect in her killing.

Suffolk County Police announced Thursday that Hampson was shot and killed by police on Wednesday night in Erving, Massachusetts. According to police, Hampson charged at officers with a knife outside a motel. He had been wanted for Frislid's murder.

Frislid was described as a kind and beloved member of her community. Eileen Tyznar, president emeritus of the Sayville Chamber of Commerce, called Frislid "a heart of gold. Nicest woman you could have ever met."

Frislid, who was on the verge of retirement, was reportedly discovered by a family member at her residence. The investigation into her death is ongoing.
