Former Major League Baseball star Mark Teixeira and ex-National Football League player Jay Feely have stated that appearances on Sean Hannity's Fox News program and podcast inspired their respective bids for Congress. The two athletes, now Republican candidates, discussed their political journeys on Hannity's "Hang Out with Sean Hannity" podcast.
Feely, currently running for a congressional seat in Arizona's first district, told Hannity, "It's your fault." He explained that his initial appearances on Hannity's "Great American Panel" program in New York began his consideration of public office.
Teixeira, a former New York Yankees player running for a congressional seat in Texas' 21st district, said he would watch Hannity's show and meet people, which also contributed to his decision. He joked about enjoying steak dinners as part of the experience.
Feely played over a decade in the NFL, including with the New York Giants and New York Jets. Teixeira had a 14-year MLB career, which included a World Series championship with the Yankees in 2009. Both now aim to bring their competitive drive to Washington.
The episode featuring Teixeira and Feely is available on platforms including iHeartRadio, YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts.
