Ex-'American Idol' Pastor Sentenced to Life for Wife's Murder

Former "American Idol" contestant and ex-church pastor Caleb Flynn has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for the murder of his wife. Flynn was found guilty of killing Ashley Flynn, 37, and staging their Tipp City, Ohio, home to look like a burglary.

The sentencing occurred earlier this week, with a new prison mugshot showing the 40-year-old Flynn in a blue jumpsuit. The expression in the mugshot contrasts sharply with his demeanor during his sentencing hearing, where he wept.

Prosecutors argued that Flynn planned to start a new life with a much younger mistress, church intern Alleigha Botner, who was 21 when they met. The defense presented Flynn's interview with investigators, which was played for the jury during the trial.

Flynn's daughters also spoke at the sentencing. His 12-year-old daughter, Alyssa, told him she did not plan to visit him in prison. Ten-year-old Ava addressed her father's actions, stating, "Mommy was the perfect person... What did she ever do to make you hate her so much? She was my best friend and then you chose to kill the only mother I ever had."

During the sentencing, Flynn apologized to his daughters for the "betrayal, confusion, anger and so much more." However, he maintained his claim that he did not kill his wife and refused to accept responsibility for her death.

Flynn was convicted on September 29, 2026, and sentenced on October 5, 2026, at the Miami County Court of Common Pleas in Troy, Ohio. He entered the reality singing competition "American Idol" before entering the ministry.
