Everton Owners Explore Sale Less Than Two Years After Takeover
The Friedkin Group announced they are open to selling a controlling stake in the English football club.
The Friedkin Group, owners of Everton Football Club, have confirmed they are exploring the possibility of selling a controlling interest in the team. This announcement comes less than two years after the group completed its takeover of the club.
A statement from the club indicated that The Friedkin Group is 'exploring new investment options for Everton Football Club, including the potential sale of a controlling interest.' The statement noted that upon their acquisition, the club faced 'significant financial uncertainty and challenges both on and off the pitch.'
The owners stated their immediate priority was to 'provide the stability, investment and support needed to secure the Club’s future,' including aiding the completion of a new stadium. With these foundations now in place, the group believes 'the time is right to consider the next chapter for Everton.'
The Friedkin Group emphasized that they will only consider interest from parties they believe can effectively lead the club forward and build upon established momentum. They assured that during this process, their focus will remain on supporting the club to achieve success on the pitch and continuing efforts to positively impact the communities served by Everton.
Moelis & Company has been retained by The Friedkin Group to manage this process. The club and The Friedkin Group will not be providing further comment while this work is underway.
