Everson Royce Bar, LA Nightlife Fixture, to Close After 11 Years
The acclaimed Downtown LA bar cites rising operating costs and a difficult business environment as factors in its upcoming closure.
Everson Royce Bar (ERB), a popular establishment in Downtown Los Angeles' Arts District, will close its doors permanently on December 20, marking the end of an 11-year run. The bar announced its impending closure on social media, citing a "disturbingly difficult" environment for businesses in Los Angeles.
ERB, located at 1936 E. 7th St., has been a fixture in the city's nightlife scene since opening in 2015. Adjacent to its sister business, Silverlake Wine, the bar has garnered acclaim, frequently appearing on lists of the best bars in Los Angeles. It was recognized for its reasonably priced cocktails and its signature single burger.
The closure of Everson Royce Bar adds to a growing list of restaurant and nightlife establishments that have shuttered in Los Angeles this year. While specific reasons were not detailed beyond the general challenges of operating in the city, rising costs are understood to be a significant factor impacting businesses across the hospitality industry.
The bar expressed gratitude to its staff in its announcement, calling their dedication an "absolute masterpiece." Owners Randy Clement and April Langford are also closing their wine shop, West Altadena Wine and Spirits, in Altadena. That establishment's final day of operation was Sunday, October 25.
Fans of Everson Royce Bar have shared their disappointment on social media, with many lamenting the loss of a beloved local spot and criticizing the business climate in Los Angeles. The bar has indicated that more details regarding the closure will be released soon and encourages patrons to visit before its final day on December 20.
