Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich spoke with ABC News in an exclusive interview about his new memoir, detailing his arrest in Russia on espionage charges and his nearly year-and-a-half detention. Gershkovich discussed his experiences and life behind bars, as described in his upcoming book.
The interview, conducted by George Stephanopoulos, covered the circumstances of his arrest and his perspective on the charges, which he and the U.S. government have called baseless. Gershkovich's detention has been a significant point of contention in U.S.-Russia relations, with the U.S. State Department designating him as wrongfully detained.
His memoir is expected to offer a firsthand account of his time imprisoned in Russia. The interview marked one of his first public statements since his arrest.
