Eva Longoria, the actress and activist, has spoken about her decision to move away from the United States, stating that she fled the country due to fears that Donald Trump would "keep his promises," making the U.S. a "scary place." Longoria, 51, who now resides primarily in Spain and Mexico, retains dual citizenship.
Longoria made these remarks while attending the Global Gift Gala in Marbella, Spain, an event she co-hosted. She explained that she feels the "American chapter in my life is done now" and no longer wishes to live in Los Angeles due to its "changing" atmosphere. She previously campaigned for Kamala Harris during the presidential election.
"I get to escape and go somewhere," Longoria told Marie Claire magazine in late 2024. "Most Americans aren't so lucky. They're going to be stuck in this dystopian country, and my anxiety and sadness is for them."
Longoria, born in Texas, spent most of her adult life in California. She and her husband, José Bastón, married in 2016, and the couple shares an eight-year-old son, Santiago. They purchased a villa in Marbella in early 2023 and have undertaken renovations. The couple also sold their Beverly Hills mansion in February 2024, stating they were "ready to get out."
While Longoria has relocated her primary residence, she still makes trips back to the United States when necessary. The Global Gift Gala she attended aims to raise funds for the Global Gift Foundation, supporting children, women, and families in need. Funds raised at the event were designated for projects including Casa Ángeles, Call for Hope Venezuela, and relief efforts for families affected by recent wildfires in Spain.
