Actress Eva Longoria has refuted claims that her family relocated from Los Angeles to Spain due to Donald Trump's 2024 election victory, stating the move was planned prior to the political shifts. Longoria, 51, clarified in a public statement that she and her producer husband, Jose Baston, had decided to leave California before Trump secured his second term.
Rumors intensified following her previous remarks to Marie Claire, where she described the U.S. as a "dystopian country" and expressed anxiety for Americans who could not relocate. In that interview, Longoria, originally from Texas, noted that she had lived in Los Angeles her "whole adult life" but felt the "vibe" had changed before the COVID-19 pandemic.
"And then COVID happened, and it pushed it over the edge. Whether it’s the homelessness or the taxes, not that I want to s*** on California - it just feels like this chapter in my life is done now," she told the publication.
Longoria further elaborated on her perspective, stating, "I’m privileged. I get to escape and go somewhere. Most Americans aren’t so lucky. They’re going to be stuck in this dystopian country, and my anxiety and sadness is for them."
A source told the Daily Mail in April 2024 that the family was moving to Spain to prevent their son, Santiago, from being "sucked into the whole Hollywood cycle." The insider explained that they wanted to raise their son in a place surrounded by nature and beauty.
Longoria addressed the persistent public perception that she fled the U.S. due to political reasons by calling her friend, Ana Navarro, during a recording of Navarro's podcast, "The View: Behind the Table." Longoria asked Navarro to "please let them know I didn’t move out of Spain - I mean, the United States - because of Trump?" adding that she had "been in Europe working for almost three years."
Longoria, known for her role as Gabrielle Solis on "Desperate Housewives" from 2004 to 2012, recently revealed that she would "never" allow her eight-year-old son Santiago to watch her performances on the show. Santiago has become interested in "memes of Gabrielle" circulating on YouTube, prompting him to ask his mother about watching the series. Longoria, who with Baston now divides her time between Mexico and Spain, is also planning to take Santiago to an upcoming Bruno Mars concert.
Longoria and Baston celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary in May. She described a recent romantic anniversary trip to the Loire Valley in France, where Baston arranged a visit to a castle. She also noted that a typical date night for them involves cooking tacos and enjoying wine.
