Estate Becomes Site of Fierce Local Opposition to Proposed Battery Storage Facility
Residents near Neston Park, a country estate featured in a Disney series, are mobilizing against plans for a large-scale battery energy storage system.
A planning dispute has erupted at Neston Park, the Wiltshire estate owned by Sir James Fuller, heir to the Fuller's brewery fortune. Over 100 local residents are opposing plans to construct a facility on the estate land that would house 108 large batteries for storing energy generated by solar and wind farms.
Residents have voiced strong objections, with one describing the proposal as a 'grotesque purpose' that future generations would find appalling. Another characterized the plan as 'fundamentally inappropriate.' Concerns have been raised that the project is a 'non-green, profit-making proposal' that could negatively impact residents and wildlife for decades. A long-time local resident expressed dismay, stating he 'never envisaged' such structures being built in the unspoiled countryside.
Neston Park, located near Corsham, Wiltshire, is also known as fictional Cotchester and served as the filming location for the Disney series 'Rivals,' where it depicted media figure Lord Tony Baddingham's manor.
Sir James Fuller was contacted for comment regarding the opposition to the battery storage facility.
