Essex Cricketer Robin Das Charged with Two Counts of Rape

Essex cricketer Robin Das has been charged with two counts of rape and is scheduled to appear at London Crown Court on Friday, October 9. Das, 24, was arrested in August 2025 following allegations of a woman being raped in Brixton in March 2024.

The Metropolitan Police stated that Robin Das of Queens Road, Waltham Forest, was charged on July 23, 2026, with two counts of rape. These charges stem from his arrest on August 27, 2025, after reports of a rape incident in Brixton on March 30, 2024. The woman involved continues to receive support from specialist officers.

Das, a batsman, made his debut for Essex in 2020 and has since played over 60 matches for the county across all formats. His only senior game this season was in a One-Day Cup match against Middlesex on July 21. He has been suspended since his charge, which came two days after that match.

Essex County Cricket Club confirmed that a male member of their playing staff, who is under contract, recently appeared in court in relation to an incident that occurred outside of club activities. The club has been in contact with the ECB, PCA, the Cricket Regulator, and the player regarding the matter, which has resulted in an immediate and ongoing suspension. Essex CC stated they will continue to adhere to all appropriate legal processes and guidance.

The club also emphasized its strict safeguarding and HR procedures, requiring all employees to uphold the highest standards of professional conduct. Due to the ongoing legal proceedings, Essex County Cricket Club is unable to provide further comment at this time.
