Essex Cricketer Robin Das Charged With Two Counts of Rape

Essex cricketer Robin Das has been charged with two counts of rape. The 24-year-old is scheduled to appear at Inner London Crown Court on Friday, October 9, after being charged on July 23.
Das was arrested on August 27 of the previous year following reports of a woman being raped in Brixton in March 2024. The Metropolitan Police stated that the charges stem from his arrest following reports of a woman being raped in Brixton on March 30, 2024. The police confirmed the woman is being supported by specialist officers.
Das, a top-order batter, has played in 60 matches for Essex. His most recent appearance for the club was in a One-Day Cup match against Middlesex on July 21, marking his sole senior appearance of the 2026 season. The club confirmed that Das has been suspended since his arrest, which occurred two days after his last game.
Essex County Cricket Club issued a statement confirming that a male member of the playing staff, currently under contract, recently appeared in court in relation to an incident outside of club activities. The club has maintained contact with the ECB, PCA, the Cricket Regulator, and the player throughout the process, which included an immediate and ongoing suspension. Essex stated they will continue to follow all appropriate legal processes and guidance. The club added that due to the ongoing legal proceedings, they are unable to provide further comment.
Das made his debut for Essex in 2020. He has played nine first-class matches for the county, along with 29 games in 50-over cricket and 24 T20 matches during his career. Two of his T20 appearances were for the Dhaka Dominators in the Bangladesh Premier League.
