ESPN NFL analyst Matt Miller is currently under investigation by the Missouri Attorney General's Office following allegations that he ran fantasy football leagues, solicited charity donations, and failed to pay out winnings to participants. The investigation was confirmed by the Missouri AG's office to Awful Announcing.
The allegations surfaced in a viral Reddit thread posted on May 21, 2026, titled “Matt Miller Leagues and Scam.” The thread detailed claims that Miller had not paid out winners from fantasy football leagues, some of which were purportedly for charity, and had ceased communication with participants. This emerged publicly after Miller posted on X on June 21, 2026, about being involved in a serious car accident that resulted in the amputation of his left arm.
According to the initial Reddit post, participants in leagues run by Miller had not received payments after the league championships concluded. Concerns were raised about the destination of funds intended for charity and the absence of payouts for winners. The thread also indicated that multiple individuals were experiencing similar issues.
Following the publication of reporting on the matter, Awful Announcing stated it received over 30 messages from individuals who claimed to have had similar experiences, including issues with fantasy league payments and purchases of scouting lessons. The outlet spoke with seven individuals who reported being ignored by Miller after making payments, with some stating they only received their funds after threatening to contact the press and copying ESPN employees on their communications.
Reports suggest Miller operated as commissioner for approximately 91 fantasy leagues on the platform Sleeper in 2025. Screenshots reviewed by Awful Announcing indicated that Miller claimed to have lost access to his Sleeper account, as well as various email and social media accounts, which he cited as reasons for not seeing payment requests. Other screenshots indicated that Miller had been banned from the Sleeper platform.
In addition to the fantasy league disputes, some individuals alleged that Miller failed to fulfill agreements after they paid him for scouting lessons and classes, becoming difficult to reach. These alleged issues reportedly extended back to Miller's time with Bleacher Report, where he worked until 2021.
Miller remains hospitalized following the car accident, which involved a collision with a semi-truck. He sustained life-threatening injuries, including a compound fracture of his left femur, a shattered left kneecap, and multiple broken ribs. He underwent several surgeries after the accident. Colleagues from ESPN, including Pat McAfee, Mina Kimes, and Adam Schefter, reportedly donated to a GoFundMe page established for Miller's recovery. Miller has not yet publicly addressed the allegations of financial impropriety.
