ESPN Host Criticizes Arch Manning's Reaction to Violent AI Video

ESPN host Shea Cornette has sharply criticized Texas quarterback Arch Manning for his reaction to a violent AI-generated video, labeling the player as "insensitive" and "immature." The controversy stems from comments Manning made during a press conference on Monday regarding an AI video that depicted Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian backhanding ESPN reporter Holly Rowe.

Manning had admitted to seeing the clip, which he and reporters present found humorous. This reaction drew widespread backlash online, leading to a public apology from Manning to Rowe on Tuesday. Rowe publicly accepted the apology.

However, Cornette, speaking on ESPN's "First Take," expressed her dissatisfaction with Manning's response. "When I first had heard Arch's comments and watched that press conference, my initial reaction was 'my goodness, how insensitive, how immature', and kind of, quite frankly, how dare he say that, especially about Holly and the way he was laughing about it," Cornette stated. She added that given Manning's profile, which includes playing for a prominent university and carrying a well-known last name, he "has to know better."

Cornette also noted her preference for a video apology over a text-based one. "I do wish his apology was vocal, was on video as opposed to in text," she said. "But nonetheless, now we move forward but what I do hope is that obviously this was a very strong learning lesson for him. We don't necessarily need to be laughing about a video that promotes violence, especially towards woman, and so Arch hopefully will do better." Manning's apology, issued via social media, stated: "In my press conference yesterday, I made an insensitive comment about an AI video. There is nothing funny about it. It's easy to say I didn't mean it, but I know my words and actions were hurtful to a lot of people. I do not take that lightly and am deeply sorry for that."

He specifically apologized to Rowe, acknowledging "what she has personally had to deal with because of my comments." He concluded by stating, "I need to do better and will be more thoughtful going forward."

The incident began after Texas' comeback victory over Ohio State on Saturday, when Sarkisian initially skipped an interview with Rowe to celebrate with his team. The subsequent online reaction, including the AI-generated video, prompted Manning's controversial remarks and subsequent apology.
