ESPN NFL draft analyst Matt Miller sustained severe injuries in a car crash on June 17 in Jasper County, Missouri, an incident captured on video. The footage shows Miller's blue 2023 Ford Bronco veering over the centerline on a rural roadway and colliding with an oncoming semi-truck.
The semi-truck driver attempted to maneuver out of the way but was unable to avoid the collision. Miller's Bronco skidded several yards after impact, coming to a stop in a patch of grass.
According to a crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP), Miller was wearing a seatbelt, but it was cut during the crash due to extensive damage to his vehicle, and he was ejected. A witness described the scene as terrifying, stating that they saw the Bronco swerve hard into the semi's lane and then witnessed the vehicle "explode." The witness found Miller lying in the grass and called 911.
Miller suffered a compound fracture of his left femur, a shattered left kneecap, multiple broken ribs, and required the amputation of his left arm. He also lost a significant amount of blood. The driver of the semi-truck was not injured.
The MSHP report indicated that the probable cause of the wreck was "improper lane usage/change."
On July 10, Miller posted on X, formerly Twitter, that he had undergone multiple successful surgeries and would be stepping away indefinitely from his role at ESPN to focus on his recovery. He thanked supporters for their prayers and thoughts.
In the weeks following the accident, allegations have surfaced on social media claiming Miller withheld prize money and charitable payments from individuals. The Missouri Attorney General's Office has reportedly opened an investigation into these claims, though Miller has not yet publicly addressed them.
