ESPN NFL analyst Matt Miller has been charged in connection with the June 17 near-fatal car crash that led to the loss of his left arm, according to court documents. Miller, 43, faces a misdemeanor charge for failing to drive on the correct side of the road, which resulted in the accident.

The charge was filed in Jasper County, Missouri, and Miller is scheduled to appear in Jasper County Circuit Court on September 21. A conviction for this Class A misdemeanor could result in up to one year in jail and a $2,000 fine.

The Collision

The crash occurred on Missouri Route 96 when Miller, driving a 2023 Bronco, reportedly crossed the center line and collided with a semi-tractor trailer. Miller sustained severe injuries, including multiple fractures and broken ribs, and was airlifted to Mercy Hospital. Doctors performed life-saving surgery, but his left arm had to be amputated. His left leg was saved following separate surgeries.

The driver of the semi-tractor trailer, a 28-year-old man from Springfield, was not injured in the incident.

ESPN placed Miller on leave in July, shortly after he announced he would be stepping away indefinitely. He shared at the time that surgery to remove his left arm was successful and that doctors were hopeful for a prosthetic replacement.

Consumer Protection Probe

Following the revelation of the crash and the extent of his injuries, accusations against Miller began to surface. Online allegations, some dating back a decade to his time at Bleacher Report, claim that Miller failed to pay winners from his charity fantasy football leagues and did not provide promised football scouting lessons to individuals who paid him. A GoFundMe was also launched to assist with Miller's medical care, transportation, and prosthetic expenses.

In July, the Missouri Attorney General's office launched a consumer-protection investigation into these allegations. While the AG's office has not commented on specifics, it has encouraged consumers who believe they have been misled to come forward. A spokesperson for the Missouri Attorney General stated, "The Missouri Attorney General's Office encourages consumers who believe they have been misled to contact us. Attorney General [Catherine] Hanaway takes consumer protection very seriously, and we will work diligently to uncover the facts."
