Authorities have arrested Marwan Jumaa, 20, who escaped from a secure hospital facility during a transfer to North Manchester Hospital on Tuesday evening. Lancashire Constabulary officers took Jumaa into custody early Friday morning after an officer recognized him.
"An observant Lancashire Constabulary officer recognised Jumaa and acted swiftly to arrest him," stated Detective Supt Nicola McCulloch. "He will now be returned to a secure hospital facility."
Greater Manchester Police had issued an appeal for information after Jumaa absconded. He is serving an indefinite sentence for attacking two women and was considered a risk to himself and others. The public was advised not to approach him and instead contact authorities.
McCulloch thanked the public for their assistance, noting that a significant number of calls provided by the public were invaluable in locating Jumaa. The investigation involved substantial resources from Greater Manchester Police.
