Erika Kirk is expected to confront graphic evidence detailing her husband Charlie Kirk's murder as the preliminary hearing for accused assassin Tyler Robinson commences this week in Provo, Utah. The five-day hearing, beginning Monday, will allow prosecutors to present their case to Judge Tony Graf to determine if there is probable cause to proceed to trial.
A source familiar with the situation described the upcoming proceedings as "a tough week on everybody" for Charlie Kirk's family and friends, who plan to attend. Warnings will be provided to Kirk's loved ones before particularly disturbing evidence, such as videos of the alleged assassination and autopsy findings, is presented, giving them the option to leave the courtroom.
Robinson, 23, is accused of fatally shooting Kirk, 31, from a distance on September 10, 2025, while Kirk was addressing a crowd of thousands at Utah Valley University in Orem. Prosecutors allege that Robinson confessed to the shooting in messages exchanged with his transgender lover, Lance Twiggs. These messages are expected to be presented as evidence.
Twiggs, a former roommate of Robinson's, was interviewed by prosecutors on April 20 and was granted limited immunity for his testimony. He was reportedly seen with family in Texas earlier this year.
Under Utah law, a preliminary hearing serves as an alternative to a grand jury indictment, where the judge assesses the sufficiency of the prosecution's evidence. If convicted, Robinson could face the death penalty. He has not yet entered a plea in the case.
