Erika Kirk, the widow of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, offered a quiet gesture of compassion in court Tuesday, handing a tissue to a sobbing woman in the public gallery during the preliminary hearing for Tyler Robinson, the man accused of her husband's murder. The act occurred as prosecutors presented surveillance footage detailing Robinson's alleged movements on the day Kirk was killed.

Denae Branch, the woman Kirk comforted, described the moment as deeply moving. "She doesn't know if I'm Team Erika or not, yet she handed me a tissue, and I lost it," Branch said during a recess. "She didn't know if I was a friend or not, and she showed love."

The hearing focused on surveillance video that prosecutors contend maps Robinson's alleged path before and after the fatal shooting at Utah Valley University in September 2025. Erika Kirk attended the proceedings alongside Kirk's parents, Kathryn and Robert Kirk. This marked the family's first court appearance since jurors were shown graphic footage of the shooting itself on Monday.

Prosecutors allege Robinson visited the Utah Valley University campus multiple times on the day of the shooting, despite not being a student. David Hull, a former Utah State Bureau of Investigation Agent, testified that surveillance footage showed Robinson arriving on campus approximately four hours before the shooting. Hull stated Robinson wandered the campus, purchased food, and approached members of Turning Point USA, the organization co-founded by Kirk, before leaving.

Prosecutors presented clips that they allege show Robinson climbing onto a rooftop overlooking the amphitheater where Kirk was speaking. Hull testified that Robinson crouched near the edge before the shooting and then fled the scene on foot. The investigator also stated that Robinson returned to the campus the night after Kirk's killing.

Donald Trump Jr., a close friend of Charlie Kirk, attended the hearing and, in posts on X, criticized the details emerging about Robinson's alleged actions. He highlighted that Robinson had visited the campus numerous times. "Major detail no one seems to be talking about: Tyler Robinson was not a student at UVU!!!" Trump Jr. wrote, noting Robinson's multiple visits to the campus prior to the shooting.

Robinson, 23, faces a charge of aggravated murder in connection with Kirk's death. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty, arguing the killing endangered numerous attendees and that Kirk was targeted due to his political views. Robinson has not yet entered a plea, and his defense attorneys have not commented on the case. Defense attorneys have unsuccessfully contested the prosecution's pursuit of capital punishment.
