Erik Von Detten Sued for Elder Abuse and Fraud

Former Disney child star Erik Von Detten is facing a lawsuit alleging elder abuse and fraud. The suit was filed by Norman and Sheila Greenberg, aged 97 and 85 respectively, who claim they suffered $900,000 in damages from dealings with Von Detten and the precious metals company Rosland Capital.

According to the lawsuit, the Greenbergs contacted Rosland Capital in 2020 after seeing a commercial. Von Detten, who began working with the company in 2018, allegedly leveraged his knowledge of gold to persuade the couple to invest in coins. The Greenbergs claim they initially invested approximately $1 million into two Lady Liberty gold coins, and Von Detten subsequently used another $1 million of their funds for additional coins. These coins are reportedly stored in a warehouse.

The couple alleges that the total value of the coins purchased was $2.1 million, but their current worth is only $1.3 million. Rosland Capital, the company with which Von Detten was associated, reportedly filed for bankruptcy months after the lawsuit was initiated.

Von Detten, who starred in films like "The Princess Diaries" and "Brink!" and the Disney Channel series "So Weird," has had a less consistent acting career in recent years. He voiced Sid Phillips in "Toy Story" and had a role in the 2024 Lifetime movie "My Acting Coach Nightmare." He has been married to his wife, Angela, since 2018, and they have three children.

Von Detten's representative did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
