Eric Trump, son of former President Donald Trump, generated controversy with social media posts made during a White House state dinner hosted for Chinese leader Xi Jinping.
One post included a photograph of himself and his wife, Lara Trump, in what was described as a dance-like pose. Critics juxtaposed the glamorous image with concerns over the cost of living for Americans. Detractors pointed out that neither individual is an official member of the Trump administration.
Trump also shared a video clip featuring a performance of "One Day More" from the musical "Les Misérables." This particular song has been noted as a favorite of Donald Trump. The musical also holds significance in relation to Chinese political discourse, as another song from the same show, "Do You Hear the People Sing?", has become an anthem for pro-democracy protesters in Hong Kong.
