Eric Trump Defends Susan Dell Against Online Trolls
Eric Trump took to social media to condemn internet users who mocked the appearance of Susan Dell, wife of billionaire Michael Dell, after the couple pledged billions to a children's investment program.
Eric Trump has publicly condemned online trolls who directed disparaging remarks at Susan Dell, the wife of computer magnate Michael Dell, following the couple's substantial philanthropic pledge. The Dells visited the White House recently to discuss their commitment of $6.25 billion to establish investment accounts for 25 million American children.
Despite the generous donation, which aims to provide each child with a $250 investment account, some social media users targeted Susan Dell with unkind comments about her appearance. Eric Trump, son of the president, expressed his dismay on social media, calling the attacks "disgusting" and urging them to cease. He highlighted the Dells' significant contribution to philanthropy, stating, "Very few people have done more for philanthropy. It’s disgusting and it has to stop." He concluded by thanking Susan Dell, saying, "on behalf of the overwhelming majority of people in this nation: Thank You!! You are incredible!"
The initiative, known as "Trump Accounts," provides government-backed investment and retirement accounts for individuals under 18. The Dells' pledge is a significant portion of the program's funding, with the American taxpayer also contributing. Funds in these accounts are inaccessible until recipients turn 18 and are subject to restrictions, such as use for purchasing a home or covering educational expenses.
Michael Dell, who founded Dell Technologies at age 19, has shared messages of gratitude from recipients, including handwritten notes from children expressing thanks for the funds deposited into their accounts. One note read, "Dear Dell Family, Thank you for the money in my Trump bank account. I'm very glad to be saving for my future." Another, from an eight-year-old in Arizona, stated, "I'm grateful for the money you added to my Trump account, Thank you for helping me save for my future."
The Dells, who married in 1989 and have four children, met on a blind date. Michael Dell's net worth is estimated by Forbes to be around $300 billion. Susan Dell previously served on President George W. Bush's Council for Physical Fitness and Sports, and the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation was established in 1999.
