Erewhon Pop-Up at LACMA Becomes Permanent Fixture
The trendy grocer will offer a permanent cafe at the museum, along with exclusive merchandise and a themed smoothie.
Trendy grocery store Erewhon has made its pop-up location at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) permanent, marking the expansion with a special capsule collection and a museum-themed smoothie. The announcement comes after the grocer's initial pop-up, which opened in May, proved successful.
Erewhon is introducing a new apparel capsule collection, including a sweatshirt, tote bag, and hat, all featuring hand-painted designs inspired by Alexander Calder's "Three Quintains (Hello Girls)" fountain located outside the museum's cafe. A portion of the proceeds from the sales of this collection will support the museum's educational and exhibition programs. Items from the collection are available at the LACMA Store within the David Geffen Galleries and online at thelacmastore.org.
In addition to the merchandise, Erewhon has launched a special LACMA smoothie. This drink features organic lion's mane mixed with organic mango, pineapple, strawberry, and mandarin.
Erewhon CEO Tony Antoci expressed pride in the partnership's evolution. "We could not be prouder to see our partnership with LACMA evolve from a pop-up into a permanent home," Antoci stated in a press release. "As our first-ever concept café, this marks an important milestone for Erewhon and the beginning of a new chapter in how we bring the Erewhon experience to the communities we serve."
The initial opening of the Erewhon location at LACMA faced some criticism, with some social media users deeming the store, known for its high prices, as inaccessible and contrary to the museum's mission. Despite these reactions, the store's permanent status signifies its success.
The LACMA location joins Erewhon's 13 other stores, with further expansion planned. The chain is set to open new locations in Downtown Los Angeles and Costa Mesa in 2027. The Pacific Palisades store is also scheduled to reopen in January 2027, following damage from a fire.
