Enzo Maresca has officially begun his tenure as Manchester City manager, emphasizing his commitment to forging his own path rather than replicating the methods of his predecessor, Pep Guardiola. Maresca, who previously served as an assistant under Guardiola and managed City's Elite Development System, stated at his unveiling that he is there to "do my job in the way I want" and "install my idea, the way I see the football."

While acknowledging similarities in concepts with Guardiola, Maresca stressed that "every manager is different." He recently spent several hours with Guardiola, who is taking time off after a decade of demanding coaching. Maresca indicated that he does not believe in a "copy and paste" approach to management, suggesting that his vision for the game may differ.

Maresca addressed several pressing issues during his press conference. Regarding his departure from Chelsea, where City paid £17 million in compensation, he stated that he was "lucky in terms of my former clubs, Leicester and Chelsea" and that "we did a great job in both clubs." He declined to elaborate further, focusing on his current role at City.

When questioned about the 115 Premier League charges hanging over Manchester City, Maresca expressed a lack of concern, noting that similar discussions were present during his previous stint at the club three years ago. "In three years, it is still the same. So nothing happened," he commented.

Player Futures and Squad Management

The future of midfielder Rodri, who has been linked with Real Madrid as he enters the final year of his contract, was also a topic. Maresca confirmed that Rodri is a key part of his plans and is a captaincy committee member. Rodri is scheduled for back surgery and will require rest and recovery. Maresca acknowledged that speculation around top players is normal and stated, "I'm not worried about that."

Similarly, for goalkeeper James Trafford, who is reportedly attracting interest from Leeds, Maresca noted that "anything can happen" during the transfer window but confirmed Trafford is currently one of City's keepers.

Maresca also commented on the futures of Phil Foden and Jack Grealish. He expressed a desire for Foden to perform at his known potential, stating, "With Phil in a good shape, in a good mood, we can win games." Regarding Grealish, Maresca stated he is "a Man City player at the moment," a remark that offers little clarity on his long-term prospects following a loan spell at Everton.

Maresca's managerial career includes spells at Parma, Leicester City, and Chelsea. He is undertaking the challenge of succeeding Guardiola, who led City through an era of unprecedented success. Maresca's immediate focus is on the day-to-day preparation and spending time with players, with the ultimate goal of winning titles with the club.
