England Soccer Camp Buzzing Over Manchester City Financial Charges
Manager Thomas Tuchel confirms the ongoing controversy surrounding Manchester City's alleged financial impropriety is a dominant topic of discussion among the national team.
The England soccer camp is abuzz with discussions about the financial charges against Manchester City, according to manager Thomas Tuchel. The controversy has become a significant topic of conversation among the national team players as they prepare for their Nations League match against Croatia.
"We had some time off between the matches and it is a big subject," Tuchel stated. "Everyone speaks about it, so there is no other voice needed. I am glad to be not that voice. No one needs my half knowledge on the topic."
Tuchel acknowledged that the Manchester City players within the England squad are discussing the situation, though he indicated these conversations are brief. "Of course, the players talk about it. City players talk about it. We talk with them but only briefly. They are ready to go tomorrow. But of course, it's a big topic in the camp."
Elliot Anderson and Marc Guehi are the Manchester City representatives in the current England squad. Nico O'Reilly, also from City, had to withdraw from the squad due to injury and has returned to his club for assessment.
Manchester City has formally appealed the verdict of the independent commission that found them guilty of the majority of financial impropriety charges brought by the Premier League. The club released a statement asserting their innocence and the presence of "clear material errors, of law, principle and fact" in the opinion.
"The club is innocent of the accusations made by the Premier League and a comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence exists in support of all of its positions relating to this case," the statement read. "We will continue to respect due process and are necessarily restricted in what we can say further until all proceedings are complete."
