England Rugby Coach Seeks New Talent Ahead of World Cup

With less than a year remaining until the World Cup, England's rugby union coach, Steve Borthwick, is reportedly looking to integrate new talent into the squad. Borthwick is expected to announce his first autumn training squad later this month, signaling a push to identify and potentially select players who can strengthen the team following a challenging recent period.

The search for new blood comes as England aims to build a competitive team for the global tournament. Reports highlight several players who could be considered "bolters" – individuals who might unexpectedly be called up to shake up the established order.

Among those noted are a 19-year-old player from Northampton, described as a flier, and a Tongan-born center who could offer a wildcard option. The selection pool also includes a hooker known for his strength and a player who is the son of a 2003 World Cup winner.

Players like England-qualified flanker Max Hicks, who is noted for his athleticism and link-up play, are being monitored. Exeter's Ethan Burger is also mentioned for his combination of scrummaging power and explosive play. George Hendy of Northampton is recognized as a consistent threat, having already scored tries this season. Nathan Jibulu, nicknamed 'cement' by his coaches for his toughness, is noted for his all-around game and improved set-piece throwing.

Other potential candidates include Jack Bracken, who recently scored his first Premiership try of the season. Louis Pater, identified early as a young player to watch, made an immediate impact by scoring a hat-trick in his team's opening match. Sione Va'enuku, an English-qualified Tongan player, is seen as a potential wildcard in the centers.

Orlando Bailey, who plays fly-half and inside center for Leicester Tigers, has been quietly impressing. Bristol captain Fitz Harding is also acknowledged for his defensive capabilities. The scrum-half position may see competition, with Archie McParland noted as rivalling England's current first-choice, Alex Mitchell, at club level.
