An England supporter is considering altering a large tattoo inked to commemorate a predicted World Cup victory after the team's semi-final defeat.

Sean Carrington, from Wigan, had a foot-long tattoo of the World Cup trophy with the words "England World Cup Winner 2026" added underneath. The £550 inking was done after England's victory over DR Congo, but the team was subsequently eliminated from the tournament by Argentina in the semi-finals.

Carrington, 36, stated he has "no regrets" about the tattoo but is contemplating modifications. He mentioned that he might add the words "only joking" to the existing design. He also noted that he had initially planned to get "It's Coming Home" tattooed across his chest but decided against it.

Carrington watched the semi-final match at Manchester's Depot Mayfield fanzone. He described the atmosphere as "crazy" when England took the lead in the 55th minute but felt the team conceded their advantage. "We sat back and gave it away," he said. "It was depressing – it ended up so flat."
