A Texas engineer who developed close relationships with Fox News personalities Greg Gutfeld and Kat Timpf was fatally stabbed in a random attack on Sept. 7, according to authorities and reports.

Andrew James Wimsatt, 62, of Austin, was killed shortly after sitting on a park bench in Round Rock, Texas, following a visit with his mother, reported Fox News.

Williamson County Sheriff's deputies arrested Benedict Chinedu Ogbodiegwu, 26, on murder and theft charges. Surveillance footage captured the attack, which occurred around 11 a.m.

According to court filings obtained by Fox 7 Austin, Ogbodiegwu allegedly attacked Wimsatt from behind, repeatedly stabbing him in the neck before leaving the scene. A passerby discovered Wimsatt on the ground and alerted police.

Wimsatt, a retired civil engineer with a Ph.D. who previously worked for the Texas A&M Transportation Institute, was a regular presence at "Gutfeld!" and the former show "Red Eye." He had cultivated personal relationships with network personalities over years of attending live events and sharing show segments.

"The crime, to me, is so heinous and shocking that I’m still trying to comprehend it," Gutfeld told Fox News Digital. "I may never."

Kat Timpf, a libertarian pundit, described herself as "shocked, disgusted and angry" by the loss of her friend. "Andrew was a fan who became a friend," she wrote on X, formerly Twitter. "He always supported me… whether that was sending me clips I wanted to post or offering truly helpful words of encouragement."

First responders pronounced Wimsatt dead at the scene. Authorities located Ogbodiegwu after finding blood-soaked clothing and the alleged murder weapon. When apprehended, the suspect reportedly claimed to have a twin brother but could not provide a name.

Ogbodiegwu has a history of arrests in Williamson County dating back to 2017, according to Fox News. He was arrested twice in 2026 for theft and possession of a fraudulent identification and was released from jail in early June after serving a previous jail term from January to April.

Ogbodiegwu is being held on a $1 million bond. He is scheduled to appear in court again on Oct. 8.
