Enes Kanter Freedom removed from WNBA Finals after refusing private suite

Former NBA player Enes Kanter Freedom stated he was removed from State Farm Arena on Wednesday night before Game 3 of the WNBA Finals between the Valkyries and the Dream. Freedom said his removal occurred after he refused to occupy a private suite offered to him by the Atlanta Dream as a security measure.

According to a statement from State Farm Arena, Freedom had contacted authorities and league officials expressing concerns about his personal safety. The arena stated that arrangements were made for him to watch the game from a private luxury suite, which would include additional security and a state police officer. This plan was intended to address his security concerns and ensure a safe experience.

However, Freedom posted a video on X prior to the game, claiming that NBA officials were banning him from his purchased seats and that he would be escorted out of the building. He later arrived at the arena during halftime, wearing a shirt that read "What Is A Woman?" He was reportedly told by a team official that he would only be allowed inside if he agreed to stay in the suite.

Freedom stated he wished to sit in his purchased seats, but an Atlanta police officer informed him he had to leave State Farm property. Following his removal, Freedom said, "They kicked me out of the game for supporting women. They’re not letting me in the arena for protecting women and supporting women. Shame on the NBA. Shame on the WNBA."

Freedom had previously announced his intention to attend Game 3, citing an interview with Valkyries star Gabby Williams, who reportedly stated she had "no problem with trans athletes playing on my team or against my team." Freedom had also previously announced plans to enter the WNBA Draft as a transgender athlete.
