Enes Kanter Freedom, a former NBA player, recently criticized Angel Reese of the Atlanta Dream for a crucial missed layup during the team's overtime loss to the Indiana Fever. Freedom took to social media platform X to comment on the play, comparing Reese to NBA veteran Paul George.
Reese missed a close-range shot with three seconds remaining in regulation that could have secured a win for the Dream, who ultimately lost 95-91 in overtime. Freedom stated on X, "Once I go No. 1 pick in the 2027 @WNBA Draft, the first player I’m dunking on is Angel Reese. She’s the Paul George of the WNBA. Just lean into the podcast already."
This remark references Paul George's podcast, "Podcast P," launched in 2023, and also alludes to George's recent performance metrics, which have seen a decrease from his career highs. Reese concluded the game with 15 points, 14 rebounds, and six assists, despite the late-game miss.
Freedom's comments on Reese are part of a broader campaign he has been conducting regarding the WNBA's eligibility policies for transgender athletes. He has previously stated his intention to enter the 2027 WNBA Draft, asserting that under the league's rules, he would be eligible to play if he identifies as a woman. Former NBA player Royce White has also expressed support for this initiative.
Freedom has discussed his WNBA plans, including a hypothetical scenario where he would team up with Caitlin Clark, stating, "Me and Caitlin will be modern Kobe and Shaq."
