A program aimed at reintegrating individuals with additional needs into the workforce has been instrumental in changing the life of Michael Reynolds, a 27-year-old from Shawbury. Reynolds lost his position in the catering industry due to pandemic-related redundancies.

Nine months ago, Reynolds began volunteering at Fordhall Farm in Market Drayton. His family stated that this experience helped him emerge from a challenging period. Reynolds himself commented that the volunteering allowed him to "get away from day-to-day life" and served as a welcome "day out."

He is among over 1,350 young individuals who have received support through an employability and enterprise initiative. This program is being delivered by four charities operating across Shropshire. Reynolds was referred to the program by his Jobcentre work coach at a time when he was experiencing difficulties with his mental health, confidence, and a lack of direction.

Initially, Reynolds attended the program with his mother, but he gradually developed the confidence to attend independently. Since joining, he has learned a variety of skills. "I have done all sorts, all sorts, trimming back brambles, conservation work, tidying up, setting up for events," he said. His involvement has fostered a passion for the environment, and he expressed a desire to pursue a career in conservation in the future.
