The couple, who are known for scaling high-rise structures, were seen displaying affection outside the Manhattan courthouse. They shared a kiss while wearing matching handcuff bracelets and stylish leather jackets.

Nikolau displayed an engagement ring, which Beerkus reportedly proposed with approximately 1,400 feet above ground during the climb. They have not yet entered a plea. The couple stated online, "Whatever happens in court, we will respect the process and accept the consequences of our choices." Their next court date is scheduled for September 29.

The stunt involved ascending the spire of the Empire State Building, where they unfurled a banner with the message: "When the power of love beats the love of power the world knows peace." This phrase is a variation of a quote often attributed to William Gladstone. Nikolau posted a video on social media showcasing her engagement ring with a view of Manhattan from atop the building.

Following their descent, Nikolau and Beerkus were taken into custody by the New York City Police Department around 1 p.m. Onlookers below observed the event, and the Empire State Building's observation deck was cleared. The couple previously featured in the 2024 Netflix documentary "Skywalkers: A Love Story" and frequently share images of themselves atop tall buildings on social media.

As they appeared in front of the judge during the brief hearing, the pair stood hand-in-hand behind their attorneys and shared knowing looks Nikolau posted a series of photos of the pair atop the Empire State Building, including a snap of the proposal and her flashy diamond ring
