Emily Simpson, a prominent figure in "The Real Housewives of Orange County," unveiled a dramatically different look at the season 20 premiere of the Bravo series in Los Angeles on Tuesday. The 50-year-old reality television personality's transformation, marked by significant weight loss and a more muscular physique, drew considerable attention and sparked widespread discussion online.
Simpson appeared on the red carpet in a form-fitting red dress by Ronny Kobo, which featured cut-out details highlighting her toned midsection. Her altered appearance led some fans to describe her as "barely recognizable." Simpson has been open about the multifaceted approach she took to achieve her new look, citing a combination of diet, exercise, cosmetic surgery, and the use of Ozempic.
A Multifaceted Approach to Transformation
Simpson's journey involved several interventions. She has undergone cosmetic procedures including a breast reduction, a lower face and neck lift, and liposuction on her arms. She also utilizes injectables such as Botox. In addition to surgical and non-surgical enhancements, Simpson has intensified her fitness routine, working out in the gym almost daily, with a primary focus on strength training.
She has also been candid about her use of GLP-1 medications, such as Ozempic, which she uses to manage cravings. Simpson detailed her transformation over a year, emphasizing the role of both medication and consistent exercise. She stated, "This is a ONE year transformation that was the result of: a GLP-1 PLUS seven days a week lifting weights in the gym combined with 20-30 minutes a day on the treadmill." Her specific workout regimen includes daily treadmill sessions with a speed of 3.6 and a 12-15 incline for 20 minutes, followed by 40-60 minutes of weight lifting, incorporating kettlebell exercises. She noted that she undertakes these workouts alone, drawing inspiration from fitness influencers.
Simpson also highlighted the importance of dietary changes, recalling from previous years that she had not altered her eating habits despite working out. "When I worked out for years before, I never changed my diet. I ate horribly," she stated in 2023. She now emphasizes a diet primarily consisting of protein and copious amounts of water.
Health and Personal Motivation
Simpson's decision to embark on a significant health and fitness journey was partly motivated by an unflattering photograph taken after a stressful filming season of "RHOC." She described experiencing a period of overeating, drinking, and lack of sleep, which led to weight gain. After seeing a photo of herself that made her question her appearance, she consulted a doctor. A subsequent blood panel revealed high cholesterol, low testosterone, and pre-diabetes. Her doctor recommended semaglutide, the generic name for Ozempic, which she began using.
She also now takes testosterone to help balance her hormones. Simpson's revamped lifestyle and physical changes come as she prepares to return to "The Real Housewives of Orange County" for its 20th season, which is set to premiere on July 9.
Simpson was not the only cast member to make a style statement at the event. Original cast member Jo De La Rosa attracted attention for her daring pink blazer worn without a top, while Tamra Judge and newcomer Carmella Garcia opted for plunging necklines. Vicki Gunvalson wore a gold mini-dress, and Heather Dubrow showcased a semi-sheer polka dot gown. Gina Kirschenheiter was seen in a black frock with a thigh-high split.
