Emiliano Buendia Nearing New Aston Villa Contract Amidst Strong Form
Argentine attacker, once considered for transfer, is now a key player under Unai Emery and poised to extend his stay until 2029.
Emiliano Buendia is on the verge of signing a new contract with Aston Villa, with positive progress reported in negotiations. The current deal for the Argentine midfielder was set to expire at the end of the season, but sources indicate a new agreement would extend his tenure through the 2028-29 campaign.
Buendia has become a pivotal figure for Aston Villa, particularly under manager Unai Emery. His resurgence follows a period where he was reportedly considered for a transfer, even being offered to rivals Birmingham City in the summer of 2025. However, he has since worked his way back into Emery's primary plans and is now regarded as one of his most trusted attacking options.
Last season, Buendia scored a notable goal in Aston Villa's Europa League final victory against Freiburg in Istanbul, marking the club's first major trophy since 1996. He recently added another spectacular goal in Villa's 3-2 win over Tottenham, his third in as many appearances at Spurs' stadium.
Emery previously lauded Buendia's dedication, stating in November of the previous year that the player deserved his return to form through hard work. "When we decided to keep him here, and he decided to stay here as well, I was confident he could get the numbers he is achieving," Emery commented.
Buendia, who will celebrate his 30th birthday on Christmas Day, has become an integral part of the team's setup. He started in Villa's recent 1-0 victory against Newcastle at St James' Park, suggesting his current importance to the squad.
